A River Cantata, June 14, 2009
On June 14, while there was no formal sermon, we enjoyed the music and message of "A River Cantata." The music was sung by our Chancel Choir and readings were by Dorothy Harper. At the 11 AM service we commissioned the Mozambique Mission Team which departed on June 15. We received this news on Tuesday, June 16 from Mission Trip co-leader, Debbie Irby:
"We made it! All of us arrived on time and safely; no hitches, no glitches. Long flight but bearable. We are now at the Airport guest Lodge in Johannesburg and will go for dinner in a few minutes. Customs was a non-event! Thanks for keeping us in your prayers...we will be in touch as circumstances allow."
"On Thursday, June 18, the office had a phone call from Mission Team Co-Leader, Debbie Irby. She says that they have NO internet access but everything is fine.
They arrived at the hospital after a lo-o-o-ng bus ride (7 1/2 hours). There is no hot water and at the moment no water at all so they are without showers. It is a great group and they are doing well.
Mary Meyer and Phyllis Michelson went to the widows village and the orphanage today. Others will get to go another time. Everyone is busy working.
They delivered the drugs and medicines (7 suitcases) to the Hospital Administrator. Debbie said that it was amazing to see the look on his face - worth every minute of the headaches to get there."
